Lopez might just be the finest Paraguayan exports since, err, Los Paraguayos. That’s how long it’s been. But the three beatmakers from Asuncion (two now living in London) have been releasing music on Keep Up! Records for the past three years.
Flipping forward-thinking and bassy boom bap hip-hop with Barrio, to modern boogie with Zapping across seven releases, the boys have won fans from Mr Scruff, Toddla T and The Nextmen to Bill Brewster and Prins Thomas, and have received Radio One airplay from High Contrast. With Glow in the dark Lopez have had a hand in the sleeper hit on Lefto & Simbad’s recent Worldwide Family Vol 1 and have recently dropped Analogue Excursions, a double EP beat tape of modern hip-hop.
It doesn’t end with the beat-making. Lopez are also prolific on the London DJ scene, digging hard for vinyl grooves from the past, present and future as well as holding down a four year residency at Brixton’s White Horse and a new residency at The Old Queen’s Head, supporting Luke Vibert and The Infesticons at XOYO, and having DJed with the likes of Coldcut, DJ Food, DJ Marky,Hexstatic, Fingathing and Bonobo.
Back in Asuncion, Paraguay Lopez have also been running Vibrations, their monthly night and DJ every other month at +160 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Their DJ sets have also resulted in invitations to Creamfields Argentina for the last two years so you can see that the boys mean business.
